California Department of Water Resources contracted our service department to perform a single freeze plug stop on a 8" (3) 230KV Cable Pipe filled with Dielectric Polybutene Oil.

In addition to contacting our experienced technicians to offer professional instruction the California Department of Water Resources purchased our FKSC-800 CRYO-LATOR Pipe Freeze Kit.

California Department of Water Resources purchased a special order SC-800 CRYO-LATOR™ Chamber and equipment to perform a single freeze plug stop on a 8" (3) 230KV Cable Polybutene Oil Pipe.

The CRYO-LATOR™ Freeze Plug held back approximately 60 PSI of head pressure in an elevated run to the surface of ½ mile.

Due to the complexity of this project, pre- planning required an ample amount of reserve be built into the refrigerant calculation.

Each individual CRYO-LATOR™ Chamber is indepenantly handcrafted and fabricated to the highest quality standards possible.

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION: The critical parameters involved with this Polybutene Oil Freeze Plug Project require that all equipment be the best quality with no possibility for failure.

CryoFoam™ Pipe Seals are set in place. Absolutely NO LIQUID NITROGEN LEAKAGE from the CRYO-LATOR™ SC-800 Chamber.

SC-800 CRYO-LATOR™ Chamber is installed just above the point where the (3) 230KV cables split off to each individual Pothead.

SC-800 CRYO-LATOR™ Chamber is installed with all necessary system temperature-monitoring points precisely set in place.

This project required a custom temperature monitoring setup, which was crucial to the project success.

Precise combination of Time and Temperature are both critical factors in achieving a 100% solid and workable Polybutene Oil Freeze Plug.

Freeze plug frost band lengths are recorded as well as all other pertinent CRYO-LATOR™ operational notes, thermocouple temperatures and liquid nitrogen volumes.

The CRYO-LATOR™ Polybutene Oil Freeze Plug is complete and repair work begins on the first of (3) 230KV Potheads.

A plant technician replaces the old seals with new seals.

Repairs are completed on all (3) 230KV Potheads in just less than 2 hours.

CRYO-LATOR™ Chamber removed and system allowed to thaw naturally. All (3) 230KV Potheads repaired and back into operation with NO LEAKS.
